At the Polish military cemetary at Monte Cassino, there is a poem. Poignant and brief, yet somehow completely encompassing the spirit of the WW2 Polish soldier:
"PRZECHODNIU, POWIEDZ POLSCE, ŻEŚMY POLEGLI WIERNI W JEJ SŁUŻBIE, ZA WOLNOŚĆ NASZĄ I WASZĄ, MY ŻOŁNIERZE POLSCY ODDALIŚMY - BOGU DUCHA, ZIEMI WŁOSKIEJ CIAŁO, A SERCA, POLSCE." It translates to: Passerby, tell Poland that we fell faithfully in her service. For our freedom and yours, we Polish soldiers gave our souls to God, our bodies to the soil of Italy, and our hearts to Poland. |

A short note about the orginal pictures on this website:
over the years as a collector, amateur historian and reenactor, I'm amassed quite a collection of photos from a multitude of sources. Some are scans of pics that I own or have owned, some were sent to me for use by friends and/or fellow historians, and others I've obtained from the Internet for my own personal use. Unfortunately with so many in my collection, I've lost track of the origin of many of these pics. For the sake of helping illustrate the plight of the Polish military during WW2, as well as to help illustrate what we are all about as an organization, I've opted to utilize several of the pictures from my collection for this website.
If any kind visitors to this website find a picture that they feel should be acredited to a specific person or organization, I humbly ask for you to email me and I will be more than happy to publicly credit the photo on our website or remove it at once if that be your preference.
humbly,
Webmaster, PALHA
